MacOS officially gains support for external GPUs

Last June, Apple announced that it would add support for external GPUs to macOS. And now, just under a year later, official support has arrived. With the latest update to macOS High Sierra, you'll be able to connect a number of different graphics cards to the Mac through a Thunderbolt 3 port and use that additional power to speed up demanding processes, including games and video editing. Apple has specifically highlighted its use for VR.

This probably shouldn't surprise anyone since it's Apple we're talking about here, but there are a number of limitations around what you can do with external GPUs. The never-ending Destiny 2 controversy is a teachable moment for the game industry

Bungie's latest and most significant attempt to address vocal player complaints surrounding Destiny 2 landed on Tuesday, a little more than six months after the game's initial launch. And yet inevitably, the vociferous community has regressed in a mere few days to its previous state of near-perpetual outrage. The update, nicknamed the "Go Fast" update for how it was designed to address complaints about speed and competitive intensity, made a number of big changes to how powerful certain firearms were and how effectively and frequently the game's signature brand of sci-fi superpowers could be wielded, among other crucial gameplay changes.

But the end result is a similar level of frustration from players who feel Bungie isn't going far...

Drop what you're doing and play Wipeout on PSVR immediately

Okay, that headline might be a little unreasonable. But it's pretty much what I did yesterday after first seeing that the update bringing VR support Wipeout Omega Collection had gone live, then hearing the near-simultaneous news of a PlayStation VR price cut. I'd been holding out, but after selling my HTC Vive last week as part of moving house, this felt like a sign.

A sign pointing in the right direction, as it turns out, because Wipeout in VR is phenomenal.
