Record levels of atmospheric CO2 measured in 2016 A new report from the World Meteorological Organisation has found that last year's levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide where at their highest in 800,000 years ( BBC News ). Based on measurements taken around the world, CO2 levels increased from 400 parts per million in 2015 to 403.3ppm in 2016, driven by a combination of human activity and the El Niño weather system.
